Superb!

This gimbal is very well made and a joy to use. I've seen some complaints about the plastic aiming arm feeling cheap but I don't find it that bad. Some of the standout features for me: the bubble level is very easy to see and use, the 360 vertical title range is great, if folds into many different positions for travel, the main tension knobs are sublime, the supplied extra long Arca-Swiss type plate and hardware to top quality, and the clicked panning operation is nice but questionable to use. In in order to use a long lens the include L-bracket works very well. To mount a camera in both landscape and portrait you will need an L-bracket specifically for the camera. Note: the included L-bracket is too narrow to accept a larger camera body. Also worth noting, the supplied L-bracket is Acra-Swiss accepting and it's mount is also Acra-Swiss style. This means without the supplied L-bracket the gimbal is a side mount Arca-Swiss configuration. Now the less than perfect aspects of this gimbal: the panning clicks on my copy are about a half a mark off (don't line up), the panning and click tension knobs operation is not intuitive, and more serious, the Acra locking screws do not tighten reliably. I had my camera in the side mount configuration and when I went to position the tripod the camera fell to the ground. This was for three reasons: I probably didn't "monkey" tighten the set screw, the plate I was using didn't have safety screws (it is now never to be used for a camera again), and the gimbal screw loosened on it's own! The only damage from the fall was to a lens hood but this should never of happened. All-in-all I am delighted with this purchase and I would buy it again. I couple this gimbal with a newer ball leveling base and the combination work well together.

very versatile and useful

This Gimbal head is the most useful tripod head I have used. Makes taking shots of the overhead sky easy. Adjusting knobs is quick and they stay put once I find the angle I want. I've used 600mm lenses on it and it stays balanced. May not suit a professional but for any other photographer, it will do the job well.

New Concept

Remarkable gimbal head. New concept. I like them. I should buy kit, tripod and gimbal together. Remarkable gimbal head. New concept. I like them. I should buy kit, tripod and gimbal together. Unfortunately, it is not possible to buy tripod without gimbal head.

Sturdy, smooth and well designed

This gimbal hits the sweet spot between smooth reliable performance and reasonably affordable price. I like the layout, the large knobs and the resulting quick set-up and fast adjustment times.

Precision made compact light weight gimbal.

This is what I was looking for in a walk-around gimbal on a composite tripod. I use a Sigma 150-600 Sport and full frame camera that comes in a little over 11 pounds. My comparison is a Wimberley on a heavy aluminum tripod which I would never part with. Because of the reduced size over the big gimbal, there are some limitations in movement but after a few weeks in the field it didn't seem to be a problem. The lens fit is tight and I can't lower the lens enough to line up with the center line of the upper arm swing (not a real problem). If you tilt the arm back 45 degrees you can shoot from slightly below horizontal to almost straight up. I was concerned this would shift the tripod center of gravity to be unstable but it didn't seem to be a problem. You can easily remove the bottom arm and utilize the side plate which worked great for me. The one con some may have is the tension adjustment. Although the spin action is extremely smooth in all directions, it comes with a lot of built in drag compared to the Wimbley which you can bring down to free spinning. I like a slight drag but you don't have any options - it's pretty much drag or lockup. After some time in the field (birds-in-flight) I never missed a shot because of drag so it wasn't a problem for me - hope it loosens up a little over time. At least with a big heavy lens it doesn't flop around in the wind and with a zoom you're out of balance about half the time.
